GREENTECH INITIATIVE

The Environmental Law Institute's GreenTech initiative focuses on the law and policy surrounding the technology transition underlying environmental action today. The next 50 years of environmental protection will not look like the first – they will be driven by technology as much as by regulation. Technology is radically reshaping how things are powered, made, and moved. It is allowing us to observe environmental conditions in real time, to adjust how we produce goods and services to reduce waste and pollution, and to address entrenched challenges. Technology is not a panacea, but it is an instrument of rapid change. This initiative explores the law, policy, and governance that lies at the intersection of green technology and the sustainable future we seek.

GREENTECH WEBINAR SERIES

The Environmental Law Institute, with the support of our GreenTech sponsors, has launched the GreenTech virtual webinar program. This free, webinar series brings together thought leaders on a wide range of technology solutions in the environmental and energy space and encourages open and robust discussions on the social, economic, policy, and legal implications of such solutions. These monthly virtual gatherings informed our in-person conference.

2023 GREENTECH CONFERENCE

The Inflation Reduction Act included $369 billion to tackle climate change, offering an unprecedented chance to accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy. But reaching net zero will require innovative legal and policy frameworks to guide an unprecedented economic and societal transformation. Realizing the promise of the IRA will require new approaches, new levels of collaboration, and a forward-looking, equity-focused vision of what a lower carbon future could be. On November 8, the Environmental Law Institute, GreenTech, the Georgetown Climate Center, and Georgetown Law jumpstarted those conversations at a day-long conference focused on Implementing the IRA and Accelerating the Energy Transition: Legal and Policy Challenges on the Road to Net Zero. Learn more about the conference, view the recordings of the conference, or read the Conference Summary & Key Takeaways.
